Gale, Evelyn King, Mary Barry and Theresa Duke. Special
thanks to her many home care workers who have looked after her over
the last several years.
Mom was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother to all of us, and she said lots of prayers for our
health and happiness. She was proud of each of us and enjoyed all the
time we spent together. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were
her pride and joy. She had pictures of them all around her living
room, and her face would light up whenever they came to visit. She
always loved to be around her extended family, whether that was in
large get-togethers, smaller groups, or just one-on-one; she cherished
every visit, and rarely turned down an invitation to a gathering or
party.
We grew up in a happy, loving home, where family and friends
were always welcome. Mom was a wonderful cook and baker, and she was
talented with her sewing machine and knitting needles, keeping us
going in quilts, socks, mitts, and slippers. Her passion for gardening
brought her many happy hours, and she created a beautiful, colourful
garden which is admired by many. Mom was a great singer, and we grew
up hearing her sing the traditional songs of her childhood in Great
Bona, Placentia Bay, and her life in Merasheen, often accompanied by
Dad, Aunt Loretta, Uncle Eddie, and Uncle Joe.
Mom was a sociable woman who enjoyed spending time with
friends going for walks, playing cards, darts, Bingo, dancing, or
attending concerts and shows. She was a woman of strength and
resilience, who met every challenge with her positive attitude. She
was funny too, she had such a quick wit, and loved to laugh! If she
got the wrong card in a game of Scat, she’d say "Look
at dis will ya…look at dis!"
