It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claire (King) Ennis, an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Claire, aged 69, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, at the Placentia Health Centre, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 1, 1955, at the Placentia Cottage Hospital, Claire spent her entire life in Southeast Placentia, a place she loved deeply. Family and friends were at the center of her world, and her home was always a gathering spot filled with love and laughter.

Claire met the love of her life, Phil, in 1968 after his family resettled from Merasheen Island and moved into the house across the road. The two were inseparable, marrying on August 26, 1972, and building their family home together in 1977, where they would raise their three children—Scott, Sonny, and Bonnie. She lived in this home her entire life, filling it with cherished memories.

Throughout her life, Claire worked in various customer-focused jobs in Placentia, where her friendly and outgoing nature shone. She loved socializing, whether it was going out to supper with her girlfriends, playing darts, or enjoying her daily trips to Tim Horton’s.

Claire was the matriarch of the Ennis family, the glue that held everyone together. She set family traditions, organized gatherings, and always ensured there was a place at her table for friends and family alike. Cooking for a crowd brought her joy, but nothing made her happier than having her children and grandchildren around her.

Claire had a passion for travel, especially to the beach, and she cherished the summers spent on Merasheen Island with her loved ones.

Claire leaves behind her devoted husband of 52 years, Phil; her children, Scott (Susan), Sonny (Paula), and Bonnie (Travis); and her four precious grandchildren, Kaylee, Taylor, Paige, and Allie, who were the absolute light of her life and will forever remember their beloved "Nanny Claire." She is also survived by her loyal four-legged companion, Willow.

She will be deeply missed by her brothers, William (Jean), Don (Teresa), Gerry (Paula), and Mark (Mary); her sisters, Anne Marie, Kelly (Dave), Teri (Don), and Pearl; and numerous nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.

Claire is predeceased by her parents, William and Gertrude King; her in-laws, Stan and Elizabeth Ennis; and her siblings, Rose, Maureen (Gerald), Pat (Geraldine), Joseph, Dan and Rick; brothers-in-law Ernie Ghezzi, Richard (Dick) Ennis, William Ennis (Helen), James Ennis, and Jerome Ennis.

A special thank you to her sisters, Kelly and Pearl, her brother Mack and his wife Mary, lifelong friend Mary Linehan; Dr. Rorke and the Cancer Clinic, the staff at Placentia Health Centre, Maher’s Funeral Home and the Medical Imaging team at the Health Sciences Centre for their exceptional care and support.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation to take place on Sunday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm and Monday from 9:00am to 10:30am. Funeral Service will take place on Sunday at 7:00pm at Maher's Funeral Home.

A Graveside Service will take place 11:00am on Monday, September 9th at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia, with inurnment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the SPCA.

Claire’s warmth, kindness, and love will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
