April 11, 1933 – May 8, 2016

 

Passed away suddenly after a brief illness on Sunday, May 8th, 2016, at the St. John’s Health Sciences Centre, Samuel Thomas Ghaney at the age of 83 years.  

Predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Teresa (Conway) Ghaney, step-mother Bride Ghaney, sister Teresa Ghaney, brother Dave Ghaney, brother-in-law Thomas Wall, and spouse Agnes Collins.

As we mourn his passing and celebrate his life, he is survived by the mother of his four children, Ann Ghaney; his three sons Gary (Denise) of Alberta, David, and Benjamin (Rhonda); only daughter Darlene (Gary) of Alberta; two grandchildren Joshua and Jessica Ghaney; one great-grandchild Maya; brothers Sid (Kay) Ghaney, and Clar (Beth) Ghaney; sister Kay Wall; step-sisters Sylvia Wade and Shirley Poole; sisters-in-law Alice O’Keefe, Leone Hall and Anna Ghaney; brother-in-law Charlie Collins; special nephew Charlie Collins; special friends Alf Cahill, Madonna Ryan and Mary Barry; Sam’s Best Friend & Companion Kia; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations be made to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia, with visitation on Thursday, May 12th from 2pm to 9pm, and Friday, May 13th from 9am to 10:30am.  Mass of Christian Burial to take place at 11am on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia, with inurnment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia.  Family and friends are welcome to join in remembering Sam at a family get-together to follow at the Star Hall, Placentia.
