In loving memory of
William (Willie) James Young
May 30, 1934 - November 23,
2023
On November 23rd, 2023,
surrounded by his loving family, William James Young of St.
Bride’s passed away at age 89. He is predeceased by his wife
of 60 years, Cecilia.
Left with a lifetime of
beautiful memories are his children Cynthia (Eugene), Calvin
(Maureen), and Michelle (Joe); grandchildren Ryan (Ashley), Samantha
(Anthony), Brandon (April), and Lauren (Jackson); great-grandchildren
Owen and Cecilia; sister Mary and brother Clifford, and a large circle
of family and friends.
Dad was born in
Lear’s Cove and left home at a young age for work. He later
settled in St. Bride’s, where he built his home and raised
his family. He was a hardworking fisherman who spent his life on the
water. Dad enjoyed cutting wood, growing vegetables, picking berries,
playing cards, and driving his bike. His greatest love was his family.
He was so proud of us all. Mom was the love of his life. His care and
concern for her were unwavering. They spent all their time together
and enjoyed walking, dancing (especially in the kitchen), and spending
time with family. Dad loved his brothers and sisters very much and
always took time to visit with them. To know Dad was to love him. He
was a kind and gentle soul. Dad was a man of few words who always had
a smile and a helping hand. He was never one to ask for anything but
gave us all so much.
Special thanks to the
staff of Inglewood Unit at St. Luke’s Home, who went above
and beyond to care for our Dad during his final years. He was shown
kindness and compassion and treated like family.
Cremation has taken
place. Visitation will be held at Maher’s Funeral Home,
Placentia on Tuesday, November 28th from 12 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. The
funeral service will take place at Sacred Heart Church, St.
Bride’s on Wednesday, November 29th at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers,
donations to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland are greatly
appreciated.
A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a sail to take us
there but a guiding
light whose love shows us the way.
